Many people in Hawaii enjoy alcoholic beverages from time to time. Drinking alcohol by itself is not a bad thing and usually does not have negative consequences. However, the choices people make after drinking alcohol can be dangerous and harm the person or others around them. One of these decisions is if they decide to drive after consuming alcohol. There are many dangers associated with drinking and driving including causing car accidents and causing injuries to other drivers as a result.

Many people are aware that driving with a BAC of .08 or above is illegal, but even people with lower amounts of alcohol in their system can be impaired and it can lead to accidents. Even at a BAC of .02 drivers have difficulty performing two tasks at the same time while driving. At .05 drivers have reduced coordination, difficulty steering and have a slower emergency response time. At .08 people really begin to show the effects of alcohol having trouble with speed control, impaired perception and have difficulty processing information. One’s driving ability gets worse the higher the BAC.

When drivers have trouble maintaining speed, processing their surroundings, have concentration issues and have a slower reaction time it can cause many problems. The drunk drivers may run a red light or stop sign, have trouble determining the speed of traffic, not check for other cars before turning lanes and other actions that lead to accidents. The victims of these accidents can also suffer significant injuries as a result. These injuries can be very costly for the victim as well. However, the victims may be able to obtain compensation from the drunk driver.

If people in Hawaii drink and drive they risk causing car accidents and causing injuries to other drivers on the road. If they do cause an accident they may be required to compensate the victims. This compensation could pay for the victim’s medical bills, lost income if they are unable to work, pain and suffering and other damages. Experienced attorneys understand how important compensation is to the victims and may be able to help them receive what they deserve.
