What evidence will help your car accident claim?

Hawaii is a scenic state, but you do not want the lush greenery to distract you while driving. Serious injuries can result from car crashes, as evident from a recent incident that saw one man go to the hospital in critical condition.

After a car crash, you need to start thinking about how you will recover, both medically and financially. You may know for a fact that the other driver holds all the liability, but you need to prove that to your insurance agency. You may even need to prove it to a judge if you decide to file a personal injury lawsuit. Here are vital pieces of evidence you need to collect at the scene to help your claim.

Take pictures of the scene

Someone in your vehicle should take pictures of all vehicles involved. You also want photos of any visible injuries sustained to prove how severe the crash was. However, this is only the beginning. It could also work in your best interest to take photos of the surrounding area. Taking pictures of the weather or the street where the accident occurred could prove outside factors led to the collision.

Jot down notes of what transpired

While the event is still fresh in your mind, write down everything that led up to the crash. You may forget certain details after you go to the doctor and talk to your insurance agency. These details could help your case much later.

Obtain a police report

After any significant collision, you need to contact the police. Law enforcement needs to come out for any car accident that results in substantial property damage or serious injury. They will create a report that details everything related to the crash. In the event you file a personal injury lawsuit later, this police report becomes the best piece of evidence you can present.
