Can you pursue a wrongful death case?

There is no worse feeling than hearing that someone you love has unexpectedly passed away. You may have just spoken to them or have been hoping to see them soon, but the reality is that they're no longer with you.

Catastrophic injuries that lead to sudden deaths are heartbreaking. Whether it's a spinal injury that ends the life of a child who was in a car crash or a brain injury that was caused by an unprotected fall at a local theme park, the reality is that your life won't ever be the same. Your family may never truly be what it was before.

Can you pursue a wrongful death case?

In cases of wrongful deaths, it's important that you know your rights and what you are or are not able to pursue against the other party. For example, if a loved one is killed in a car crash, you'll be able to pursue a claim only if you are a close family member or someone who is financially impacted by this loss (in most cases).

Families are protected. Spouses, mothers, fathers and children, for example, may be able to pursue a claim against someone who kills their immediate relative, such as a significant other, a child or a parent. The point of the claim is to help recover financial losses and to protect these individuals from suffering further losses as a result of the death. Nothing can be done to bring back the person you love, but a claim can help balance the financial end of your loss and give you more time to grieve.
