Pedestrian rushed to hospital in critical condition in Waikiki

When you travel to Hawaii, live there or spend time going to school there, you want to have a wonderful time. It's a beautiful state, and there is always great weather for outdoor activities.

You do have to be cautious, though. Drivers may not be familiar with the roads if they're tourists, and locals might speed along a little too quickly. As a pedestrian, one wrong move could mean serious injuries or death.

Take, for example, this case involving a 28-year-old pedestrian who was critically injured in a crash in Waikiki. The authorities have stated that both speeding and drugs could have played a role in the collision that left that pedestrian near death.

The crash, which took place near the Prince Waikiki Hotel in the late afternoon, happened when a Nissan driven by a 53-year-old man hit a pedestrian on Ala Moana Boulevard. The driver just barely missed a second pedestrian who was in the intersection's crosswalk with the person who was hit.

The driver of the Nissan was taken into custody by police and arrested with the suspicion of being intoxicated. They have been arrested on suspicion of first-degree negligent injury as well.

This kind of crash just goes to show how quickly a single driver's errors can change your life. If you're a pedestrian, always be cautious about entering roadways, even if you have the right of way. Drivers who are intoxicated or impaired in other ways may not slow down or stop when they should, so you could be in harm's way. If you're hurt, then your attorney can talk to you more about your options for making a claim.
