Crashes are fairly common, even in a beautiful area like Honolulu. Unfortunately, they sometimes lead to the worst-case scenarios that no one wants to think about.
Take for example a case out of Iwilei. A woman was walking across the street in a marked crosswalk on Nimitz Highway at around 9:00 p.m. Two vehicles stopped for her and were allowing her to cross, but a man on his motorcycle overtook the two vehicles and headed straight for the pedestrian.
The 50-year-old woman was struck by the 50-year-old motorcyclist. She suffered critical injuries and later passed away at the hospital. The motorcyclist was thrown around 100 feet after hitting a signpost. He was also in critical condition when he was taken to the hospital. He reportedly was not wearing a helmet.
This is a tragic story because a woman lost her life while doing everything she was supposed to do. She was in a crosswalk and other drivers had stopped for her. Sadly, crashes like this do happen and can be fatal.
If you or a loved one are hurt in an incident like this, you have a right to hold the driver who struck you responsible for their actions. In a worst-case scenario, you can pursue a claim against someone who has killed your spouse, child, parent or other close loved one as well. It’s important that those who cause serious crashes understand the harm that they’ve caused so that they never make the same kind of mistake in the future. They should be held responsible for their actions.
